Dairy Goat? What is that?
Dairy goats are great as companions for other animals, pets, 4-H projects. Of course, they are also great for providing milk for you and your family. Some people who are lactoseintolerant or some babies who can't tolerate formula can enjoy goat's milk. Nigerian Dwarf? A small dairy goat? Nigerian Dwarfgoat stand about 19-23 at the withers (shoulders) which is the size of a medium dog (Australian Shepherd or BorderCollie) They can milk quite a bit for their size, up to of a gallon/day, but normally average gallon/day. Prefect for afamily. They tend tohave a sweet personality verses pygmy goats which tendto have a brat or super stubborn attitude. They kid easily and are goodmothers. Many cities allow youto have a couple of Nigerians, so you don'thave to live on a farm to ownthem! |
You actually drink the goat's MILK!?!
Yes, we do drinkthe milk but we also make cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. Goat's milk is a little moresalty than cow's milk but is generally sweeter than cow's milk. Goat'smilk is healtherfor you and easier to digest. Plus, goat products (especially milk) is used more aroundthe world than cow products.
Saanen? What isthat?
Saanens are the Holsteinsof the goat world. They produce over gallon a day, with some producing over twogallons daily. They are called the gentle giant and rightly so, as they standa minimum of 30at the withers(shoulders) and take most everything with a Ok, what's next?attitude. These majestic white goats truly love theirowners and to be milked. The name Saanen comes from the Saanen Valley in Switzerland where theyoriginated. (Pronounced: SAW-nen) |
